Treatment for Bruxism

Stop Wearing Your Teeth Down and Put an End to Jaw Pain

Do You Have a Teeth Grinding Habit?

Patients with a habit of teeth grinding, or bruxism, often experience chronic headaches, jaw pain and broken or worn down teeth. Many are diagnosed with TMJ disorder and experience severe pain around the jaw and neck area as a result. Drs. Stephen Futrell and Chad Reese perform comprehensive evaluations to determine the extent of damage caused by teeth grinding and prepare an individualized treatment plan for patients that grind their teeth.

Symptoms of Teeth Grinding

  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Tightness around the jaw
  • Headaches
  • Facial pain
  • No Longer Suffer From Teeth Grinding

    What Causes Teeth Grinding?

For many people, bruxism is an unconscious habit that can be broken with holistic therapies such as relaxation exercises to relieve tension and stress. Some common causes of bruxism include:

    • Poor bite alignment
    • Anxiety
    • Parkinson’s or Huntington’s Disease
    • TMD

    Treating Bruxism and TMJ Effectively

Patients who are experiencing jaw pain or other TMJ symptoms may need a combination of therapies and treatments to restore their jaw health. Common bruxism treatments include:

    • Occlusal Adjustment – A bite adjustment can restore proper functioning of the bite so there is not excessive stress on certain areas of the mouth.
    • Cosmetic Dentistry – Drs. Futrell and Reese may recommend tooth restoration treatments to correct worn or chipped teeth caused by teeth grinding such as dental crowns, fillings or veneers.
    • Mouth Guards or Night Guards – Wearing a mouth guard during high-stress times of the day or a night guard at night can reduce the effects of a teeth grinding habit and even help to break the habit.
